Gemini no longer wants to limit itself to answering questions when you ask them. Google introduced a new stage for its app, with features capable of anticipating needs, organizing information, and carrying out tasks under your direction.
The company says Gemini grew from serving 400 million monthly users during last year's Google I/O to more than 900 million today, across 230 countries and more than 70 languages.
Gemini Adopts a More Dynamic Design
The app introduces Neural Expressive, a visual language that adds fluid animations, more intense colors, new typography, and haptic feedback on compatible devices.
But the change isn't only aesthetic. Google also integrated Gemini Live directly into the app. You can now start by typing a question, switch to a voice conversation, and return to text without interrupting the context.
The microphone was redesigned so you can explain complex ideas without Gemini cutting you off halfway through a sentence. The company also plans to add regional dialects so voices feel more natural and familiar to each user.
Responses may also include images, interactive timelines, narrated videos, and dynamic charts. Instead of always showing a block of text, Gemini will try to adapt how it presents information to each request.
Neural Expressive is beginning to roll out globally on the web, Android, and iOS.
Gemini 3.5 Flash and Gemini Omni Expand Capabilities
Google introduced Gemini 3.5 Flash, the first model in a new generation designed to combine advanced reasoning with fast responses and actions.
It also announced Gemini Omni, a multimodal model that turns text, image, and video instructions into cinematic-style audiovisual productions.
With this tool, you could upload a video from your phone and request changes such as cinematic zooms, background replacement, or template application. Editing is presented as a conversation, without requiring professional software skills.
Gemini Omni will also let you create a personalized avatar with your appearance and voice. The feature is beginning to roll out to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers worldwide.
Daily Brief Organizes the Start of Your Day
What if your assistant reviewed important information before you opened each app? That's the idea behind Daily Brief, an agent that prepares a personalized summary every morning.
After you activate it, Gemini can check connected apps to gather urgent updates from Gmail, upcoming Google Calendar events, and details related to pending tasks.
The feature doesn't just summarize. It also organizes and prioritizes information according to your goals, while suggesting possible next steps. Over time, you can guide its results using quick approval or disapproval responses.
Daily Brief is beginning to roll out to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers, initially in the United States.
Gemini Spark Turns Instructions into Actions
The most ambitious announcement is Gemini Spark, a personal agent designed to work throughout the day, even when you close your computer or lock your phone.
Unlike a traditional chatbot, Spark aims to complete entire processes. It's integrated with Google Workspace tools such as Gmail, Docs, and Slides, and runs in the cloud through Gemini 3.5 and the Antigravity system.
Possible uses include:
- Reviewing monthly statements and detecting new subscriptions or unexpected charges.
- Checking emails from your children's school, extracting important dates, and preparing a daily summary for you and your partner.
- Analyzing meeting notes spread across emails and chats, creating an organized document, and drafting the message to start the project.
Google also announced MCP connections with services such as Canva, OpenTable, and Instacart. In the coming weeks, Spark will be able to use these integrations to help you design, make reservations, or shop, although availability will depend on each market.
The company plans to add more options, such as sending text messages and emails to Spark, creating custom subagents, and operating the local browser.
Autonomy doesn't mean total control. Spark will be designed to ask for authorization before carrying out sensitive actions, such as spending money or sending emails.
Gemini Spark will begin with a group of trusted testers and then arrive as a beta for U.S. Google AI Ultra subscribers.
Gemini Spark Is Also Coming to macOS
Google is working on an update to its Gemini app for macOS. During the summer, Spark will be able to interact with local files and automate workflows directly on the desktop.
The app will also receive new voice features. Gemini will be able to use the context visible on the screen to turn an improvised explanation, complete with pauses and corrections, into precise text placed exactly where the cursor is.
For example, you could think out loud about a proposal and ask Gemini to turn it into a formal email or a structured document. The app would be interpreting your intent, not simply transcribing every word.
The Gemini app for macOS is already available to all users. Spark and the new voice features will arrive later in the summer.
More Useful AI, but Also More Responsible
The announcement shows where consumer artificial intelligence is heading: from answering questions to working in the background, connecting services, and completing tasks. That could save time for students, parents, entrepreneurs, and small teams that often carry too many repetitive responsibilities.
But the more power an agent has, the more important it becomes to define its permissions. Reviewing an email isn't the same as sending it; recommending a purchase isn't the same as paying for it. The ability to choose which apps it connects to and when it must ask for authorization will be key to building trust.
Gemini still isn't a universal assistant for everyone. Several features are starting in the United States, depend on specific subscriptions, and will roll out gradually. Even so, the direction is clear: Google wants Gemini not only to tell you what to do, but to help you do it—always under your control.
