Comet launches Privacy Snapshot to control your privacy | Keryc
Comet, the browser built as an AI assistant, has just added an immediate, visual way for you to control your privacy: Privacy Snapshot. Have you ever wondered what data the assistant uses while you browse and how you can stop it? This update aims to answer exactly that, right from the home page.
Privacy Snapshot puts privacy front and center
The main new feature is a widget on the home page called Privacy Snapshot. With a single click you can see how Comet is protecting you and adjust key options without diving into hidden menus.
Privacy Snapshot clearly shows what's active and lets you change it instantly.
What can you do from the widget?
Review and adjust ad and tracker protection.
See and modify what the Comet Assistant can access on each site.
Quickly jump to password manager and advanced security preferences.
If you're the kind of person who uses widgets to save time, this makes controlling your privacy much simpler.
Comet Assistant settings: more clarity, fewer surprises
The Comet Assistant lives in the sidebar and helps you with open tabs, searches, and actions on websites. For it to do tasks for you it needs context (for example, your tab history), and now those controls live in one dedicated place.
Highlighted options:
Block tasks on specific sites: you choose exactly where the assistant can act.
Global on/off for the assistant: turn it off if you don't want it interacting with pages or your history.
Breakdown of data use: a clear explanation of what information the assistant uses.
The advantage? Less confusion about when the assistant is "doing things" for you and more control for you.
Default protections and basic practices
Comet already offered several automatic protections that remain in place:
Default ad and tracker blocking to keep browsing private and faster.
Safe browsing against malicious sites.
Integrated, local password manager on your device.
Regular security updates.
Practical tips that always apply:
Keep the browser updated.
Use strong passwords or the built-in manager.
Regularly review site and extension permissions.
How Comet handles your data (simple explanation)
Comet uses a hybrid model: some processing happens on your device and some on Perplexity's servers. What does that mean, in plain words?
The most sensitive stuff (passwords, cards) is stored locally on your device.
For the assistant to help with an open tab, some relevant data may be sent to Perplexity to complete the task.
You can delete that data whenever you want. Also, Comet automatically deletes queries it classifies as personal after 30 days.
It's a balance: keep as much data as possible on your device and send the minimum needed for the assistant to work.
What you can do today
Update Comet to the latest version to see the Privacy Snapshot widget.
Click the widget or go to Settings -> Privacy to review options.
Try blocking the assistant on a site and see how the interaction changes.
Few things give more peace of mind than knowing exactly what controls you have and where they are. With Privacy Snapshot, Comet puts that visibility on your home screen: easy to find, understand, and use.
