Anthropic introduces new Claude features designed for the financial world: an Excel add-in, connectors to real-time market data, and a package of Agent Skills that automate tasks like modeling discounted cash flows and preparing coverage reports.
What's in the update
These changes build on Sonnet 4.5, which Anthropic says leads performance on financial tasks and reaches 55.3% accuracy on the Vals AI Finance Agent benchmark. What does that mean for you? Less manual work and more help right inside the tools you already use.
Claude for Excel (beta)
Claude arrives in Microsoft Excel as a sidebar in beta. It can read, analyze, modify and create workbooks, and it does so transparently: it tracks and explains changes and takes you straight to the cells it cites in its explanations.
Need to debug a complicated formula, fill templates with new assumptions, or build a model from scratch? Claude can do that while preserving the workbook's structure and dependencies. It's a practical way to delegate repetitive tasks without losing control.
This feature is in preview for Max, Enterprise and Teams users, with 1,000 initial users giving feedback before a wider rollout.
Connectors to real-time information
Connectors give Claude direct access to external sources. Anthropic adds new integrations that widen its market view:
- Aiera: real-time transcripts and summaries of earnings calls and investor events. It also connects a Third Bridge feed with interviews and expert analysis.
- Chronograph: operational and financial data for portfolio monitoring and private equity due diligence.
- Egnyte: secure search of internal documents, financial models and data rooms with governed controls.
- LSEG: fixed income, equity and FX prices, macro indicators and analyst estimates.
- Moody's: proprietary ratings, research and data on over 600 million public and private firms.
- MT Newswires: global, multi-asset market and economic news.
The connectors are delivered via the
MCPand Anthropic publishes guides for setup and best practices.
With these flows, Claude can enrich analyses, update multiple sheets and feed reports without you moving each datapoint manually.
New Agent Skills for financial tasks
Anthropic added six prebuilt skills that Claude can use in any app in its ecosystem:
- Comparable company analysis with multiples and operating metrics.
- Discounted cash flow (DCF) models with free cash flow projections, WACC calculation, scenarios and sensitivity tables.
- Due diligence packages that convert data room documents into Excel with financials and contracts.
- Teasers and company profiles for pitch books and buyer lists.
- Earnings analysis to extract key metrics, guidance changes and management commentary.
- Kickoff of coverage reports with sector analysis, deep-dives and valuation frameworks.
These skills simplify repetitive work and let you refresh analyses when new data arrives. They're in preview for Max, Enterprise and Teams.
Practical impact on the industry
Claude is already in use at banks, asset managers, insurers and fintechs. Its applications range from improving client interaction in the front office to supporting underwriting, compliance and modernizing code in the back office.
Clients cited by Anthropic report concrete benefits: time savings for engineers (many say they gain 8 to 10+ hours weekly on tasks like creating SQL queries), faster development cycles and improved investment analysis workflows.
Citi, Coinbase, BCI and Visa are among organizations that highlight compatibility with enterprise workloads, security and the ability to integrate multiple data sources. It's not just a powerful model; it's a platform built to operate in regulated environments.
How you can try it
If you work in finance and want to explore these features, Anthropic offers previews for enterprise customers and a waitlist for Claude for Excel. There are also webinars and materials to see the new capabilities in action.
If your team manages financial models, due diligence or market intelligence, these updates aim to save hours of manual work and reduce human errors in critical processes.
Claude isn't here to replace professional judgment, but to amplify it: letting you spend less time on mechanical tasks and more time interpreting results and making decisions.
