Anthropic introduces Claude for Small Business, a package designed to bring AI to work inside the tools you already use every day. What do you get? Less admin work stealing your time and clearer, data-based decisions — without having to become an AI expert.
What is Claude for Small Business
It's a toggle-able setup inside Claude Cowork that connects Claude to popular tools like Intuit QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, Docusign, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. It's not just a chat assistant: these are ready-made flows that automate concrete daily tasks for a small business.
"Small businesses make up nearly half the American economy, but they've never had the resources of bigger companies. AI is the first technology that can finally close that gap." - Daniela Amodei, Anthropic
How it works in practice
- Turn on
Claude for Small BusinessinsideClaude Cowork. - Connect the tools you already use.
- Pick the task or flow: Claude prepares a plan and you review it before anything is sent, posted, or paid.
It ships with 15 agent-like flows ready to use and 15 skills built from the repetitive tasks business owners said slow them down the most. You don't need to code: pick a flow, review it, and approve.
Concrete examples
- Plan payroll with real data:
QuickBooks+PayPalto see cash position, make a 30-day forecast, and set reminders for approvals. - Close the month with fewer mistakes: reconciliation, discrepancy detection, generate a clear P&L, and a package to send your accountant.
- Get a one-page pulse of the business: cash position, sales trends, pipeline movement, and commitments for the week.
- Launch a campaign: spot slow periods, analyze performance in
HubSpot, design the strategy, and create creatives inCanvaready to publish.
There are also tools for invoice follow-up, margin analysis, tax-season prep, contract review, lead triage, and content strategy.
Connectors and what they do
- PayPal: settlements, invoicing, disputes and refunds inside Claude.
- Intuit QuickBooks: payroll planning, month-end close, cash flow and tax preparation.
- HubSpot: lead triage, customer pulse and campaign attribution.
- Canva: generate and edit materials, collaborate and publish.
- Docusign: send contracts, track status and archive signed copies.
Each connector specializes in concrete tasks, which makes the flow more reliable and lets Claude act with real context from your business.
Trust and security
In a survey, half of business owners said data security was their biggest doubt about AI. Anthropic tackles that with clear principles:
- You're in control: each flow is started by you and requires your approval if you set it that way.
- The same permissions apply: if an employee can't see something in
QuickBooksor Drive, they won't see it through Claude either. - We don't train on your data by default in Team and Enterprise plans.
Check Anthropic's Trust Center for the full details on privacy and data practices.
Training and support
Tools without training fall short. That's why they launched the free course "AI Fluency for Small Business" in partnership with PayPal. It's led by owners who already use AI in their operations, with step-by-step guides on automating accounts payable, spotting tasks suited for AI, and doing it safely and ethically.
There's also an in-person tour (Claude SMB Tour) starting May 14: free half-day sessions for 100 local leaders in cities like Chicago, Tulsa, Dallas, and San Jose. Attendees get one month of Claude Max to start integrating AI into their work.
Partnerships and social reach
Anthropic works with public and nonprofit partners so the technology reaches those usually left out: accelerators for solopreneurs, CDFIs integrating AI into services, and local associations that help distribute training and Claude credits.
This isn't just a new feature: it's a bet that AI can shrink the gap between small and large businesses by offering tools, training, and on-the-ground support.
Why should you care?
Small and medium businesses account for 44% of U.S. GDP and nearly half of private-sector employment. If AI can shave hours off admin work and improve key decisions (payroll, cash flow, marketing), the productivity and quality-of-life gains can be real.
Still skeptical? Start with a small flow, like invoice follow-up or a weekly report. You'll see repetitive tasks shrink and gain hours for the work that really adds value.
