Anthropic introduces Claude Design, a tool that lets you collaborate with Claude to create polished visual work: designs, prototypes, slides, one-pagers and more.
Are you a designer with little time to explore many directions? Or are you a founder, product manager or marketer without a design background who wants to turn an idea into something presentable? Claude Design promises room to explore and a path for anyone to produce quality visual work.
What is Claude Design and why does it matter?
Claude Design is a new product from Anthropic Labs that uses their most capable vision model, Claude Opus 4.7. It’s available in research preview for Claude Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise subscribers, and is rolling out gradually.
Why should you care? Because it reduces the friction between the idea and the visual artifact. Instead of spending weeks on sketches, reviews and handoffs, you can get a functional prototype in minutes and refine it by talking to the AI.
Claude Design doesn’t replace the designer, but it speeds up exploration and makes it easier for anyone to materialize a visual idea that fits the brand.
How it works (in simple steps)
-
Onboarding and brand system: during setup, Claude reads your code and design files to build a design system with your colors, fonts and components. That system is applied automatically to projects.
-
Flexible inputs: you can start from text, upload images and documents (
DOCX,PPTX,XLSX), point to code or use the web capture tool to pull elements from your site. -
Interactive refinement: comment inline, edit text directly or tweak knob-like controls to change spacing, color and layout live. Then ask Claude to apply those changes across the whole design.
-
Collaboration: designs have sharing controls by organization. Keep documents private, share them as view-only, or grant edit rights to work together and chat with Claude as a team.
-
Export and handoff: export to an internal URL, a folder, Canva,
PDF,PPTXorHTML. When the design is ready, Claude packages everything into a bundle to pass to Claude Code with one instruction.
Concrete use cases
Claude Design is being used for:
- Realistic prototypes: turn static mockups into interactive prototypes for user tests, without touching code.
- Product wireframes and mockups: PMs can sketch flows and hand them to Claude Code or designers to polish.
- Design explorations: generate many visual directions quickly and choose without fearing wasted time.
- Pitch decks and presentations: go from an outline to an on-brand presentation in minutes and export to
PPTXor Canva. - Marketing collateral: create landing pages, social assets and campaign pieces and then iterate with the team.
- Frontier design: prototypes that integrate voice, video, shaders or 3D and other powerful elements.
A practical example: teams that used to need 20+ prompts to recreate a complex page now do it in 2 prompts with Claude Design, keeping the design intent as it moves to production.
Integrations and team workflow
Anthropic plans to add more integrations in the coming weeks to connect Claude Design with the tools your team already uses. There’s already a notable collaboration with Canva: you can move a Claude Design draft to Canva and keep editing in a collaborative, publish-ready environment.
For businesses, Claude Design is turned off by default. Admins can enable it from the organization settings. Access counts against your subscription limits, with the option to increase usage if you need it.
What to keep in mind
- It’s a research preview, so expect fast improvements and changes.
- It uses
Claude Opus 4.7, which improves vision, code and multi-step tasks, but it’s not magic: outputs get better when you give clear instructions and examples. - Keep control of your design system: Claude can apply rules automatically, but you should review and fine-tune them with your team.
Getting started
If you’re already a Claude Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise subscriber, the feature should appear in your account soon. To try it, visit claude.ai/design and follow the onboarding so Claude can read your codebase and design files.
Final thought
We’re at a moment where AI makes that first creative spark tangible. Claude Design doesn’t come to replace the craft of design, but to democratize the ability to prototype and explore fast. If you’ve ever been stuck between an idea and the final file, this tool gives you a shorter, more collaborative path.
